Celebrating the first edition of World Opera Day
FEDORA's Activities
On October 25th, 2019 the first World Opera Day was launched by Opera Europa, OPERA America and Ópera Latinoamérica with the support of national and international cultural organisations that FEDORA is delighted to be part of.
The date of October 25th was chosen as a celebration of the birthdays of Georges Bizet, composer of Carmen, and Johann Strauss II, composer of Die Fledermaus, who have contributed greatly known and loved works to the repertoire.
On this day, opera companies around the world built the awareness campaign through live and online activities and events. OperaVision, the free streaming platform supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, celebrated World Opera Day with streams of Carmen from National Centre for Performing Arts Beijing and Die Fledermaus from Vienna State Opera.

On 16 December, the Paris national Opera hosted at the Studio Bastille, in collaboration with FEDORA, the charitable “Heart to Heart Concert” performed by artists of FEDORA’s Member, the Kyiv National Academic Operetta’s Theatre, benefiting artists in the Ukraine, in the presence of His Excellency Vadym Omelchenko (Ambassador to France of the Ukraine) and Bogdan Strutinsky, General and Artistic Director of the Kyiv National Academic Operetta’s Theatre.
Read moreOn June 29th, 2020, FEDORA will pilot the new online Transnational Giving Europe Platform, built by the Transnational Giving Europe Network to raise funds for the nominees of the FEDORA Prizes. It will simplify cross-border donations and facilitate philanthropy across Europe by allowing donors to benefit from tax deductions in their country of residence.

This year Opéra national du Rhin, in France and Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, in Germany hosted the Opera Europa's autumn conference, where the representatives of opera houses, ballet companies and festivals from all over the world got together. On this occasion Fundraising Forum, a joint activity between Opera Europa and FEDORA, and FEDORA's General Assembly took place with the opening speech of Peter Spuhler, Director of Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.
